London–based jeweller Georgia Kemball taught herself the ancient process of lost wax casting via YouTube. This anecdotal fact speaks not only to the designer’s talent as an autodidact, but to the eclectic, epoch–spanning references that underpin her namesake label. Merging ancient mysticism and mythology with punk signifiers, Georgia’s practice explores jewelry’s long–held talismanic properties. Adorned with an array of hand–carved creatures — goblins, cupids, lovers — each handcrafted jewel possesses its own magic ability, warding off evil or inviting romance. Regardless of its specific mythic origins, however, every one of Georgia’s pieces emits the strange, sentimental pull that has characterized jewelry since antiquity.
